FILM REVIEW - Gnomeo and Juliet (17/2/2011)
So tonight Kim and myself went out for a girls night. We went to Bella Italia and devoured a beautiful 3 course meal, before waddling over the cinema to watch Gnomeo and Juliet.
Gnomeo & Juliet, as you can probably tell is a reinterpretation of William Shakespeare’s infamous tale of love and tragedy, Romeo & Juliet. Unfortunately to those of you who love Shakespeare’s tale, Gnomeo and Juliet does differ from the original story quite a considerable amount. Using rather cute garden gnomes as the main characters, there is also a mushroom, fawn and a flamingo! The tragic ending has thankfully been removed, this means that you don’t need to take your tissues to watch the film; it’s simply a heart warming family film to snuggle up on the couch to. The main characters are in the most part still there; Romeo – Gnomeo, Juliet, Benny – Benvolio and not to forget Tybolt.
Personally, I love the film; I think it is one of those films which will pick you up if you have had a bad day. It is full of humour, for both adults and children, and offers a wide range of renowned celebrity voices, such as James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Jason Statham and Ozzie Osbourne. We both loved the little mushroom and the flamingo ‘and I’m pink’. They each bring another level of comedy to the screen. So be prepared to hold your sides and be taken back into William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, done with a twist.
Look out for Benny dressed as a flower on the trailer!!!
